Phoenix, AZ - Major General Van C Doubleday, USAF (retired), 95, passed away on June 21, 2025, in Phoenix AZ.

Van was born February 13, 1930, in West Palm Beach, Florida to David Doubleday and Mary Garrett. As a child, he spent his formative years at Camden (formerly Carlisle) Military Academy. Following enlisted service in the USMC, he entered the ROTC program at the University of Miami and received his commission in 1952.

He started in Air Traffic Control, became a navigator, and flew 68 combat missions out of Korat ,Thailand. In the early 70's, he went to Europe as Commander of United Kingdom Communications, and served in Wiesbaden Germany and Croughton, England before heading back stateside. After assignments at Richards-Gebauer AFB and McDill AFB, he became Director of Command, Control and Communications under the Chief of Staff for Communication and Computer Resources at the Pentagon.

After retiring from his decorated career in the US Armed Forces in 1980, he and his family moved to Litchfield Park. While there, he pursued a career with Honeywell Bull as an Executive Director, where he travel globally for years.

He is an alumni of the University of Miami, Syracuse University, and Harvard's Advanced Management Program.

Van was pre-deceased by his first wife JoJane (Gobat) and is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Elizabeth, sister Joyce Turner, daughter Lisa King (Jim), son Michael (Lisa), daughter Gina, and step-daughter Dottie. He leaves eight grandchildren: Samantha Wright Tanton (Ryan), Adam Wright (Rebeca), Vanessa King (Derek Nesmith), Harrison King, Jessica Ruehs (Chad), Jonathan Doubleday, Dylan Doubleday, and Eva Doubleday. He also leaves seven great-grandchildren: Jackson Tanton, Grayson Tanton, Maya Wright, Ofelia Wright, True Nesmith, Noah Ruehs and Charlotte Ruehs.

Local services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 6300 N Central Avenue, Phoenix. AZ at 10 AM July 26, 2025. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow.

Van's final resting place will be Pike's Peak National Cemetery In Colorado Springs, CO on September 19, 2025 at 2 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Flying Horse Lodge at 3:30 PM.
