Sherburn Delbert Beyer Obituary

Vista, CA - Sherburn Delbert Beyer passed peacefully on April 19th, 2025 in Vista, California. He was born on October 20th, 1939 to Buna and Sherburn Beyer of Buckeye, Arizona. Known to his family and friends as Del, he was a pillar of Buckeye for most of his 85 and a half years.

Del was an accomplished and successful farmer and was the third generation in his family to do so. That legacy began in 1927 with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Steward. The original farm of 240 acres was carved out of the desert on the Northwest corner of Highway 85 and the B.I.D. canal. Del grew the farming operation to over 3,000 acres between deeded and leased property. The geographic enterprise ranged from Rainbow Valley and Buckeye to Blythe, California.

He was the Salutatorian of the class of 1957 of Buckeye Union High School. Del earned a degree of Bachelor of Science in Farm Management from Arizona State University, where he graduated with honors in 1961. Del married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Brabbin, in 1960. They had three children in the years that followed. He was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Buckeye as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

In 1966, at the age of 26, Del was in a tragic plane crash that nearly took his life. He was ejected from the plane on impact, suffering a broken back and severe spinal cord injuries. His recovery consisted of several months in the hospital. When he later asked the surgeon how close he was to being paralyzed, the answer was "about a sixteenth of an inch".

Over the years, Del held many board member and leadership positions with various organizations in the agriculture industry. He was always interested in trying to figure out how to be a better farmer. Del also held the position of Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Buckeye. He liked to affectionately refer to the title as "Exhausted Rooster".

Del enjoyed many years of his life with his long-time companion, Terry Fulbright. After retirement, he purchased a cabin in Eager, Arizona. He spent many days fly fishing on the Southfork of the Little Colorado River, at the X-Diamond Ranch.

Del moved to Carlsbad, California in 2022 where he resided near his three children and their families. It was such a gift to spend so much time with family over the past few years. Del is survived by his sisters Doris King and Sharon Hinkle, as well as his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends who had the privilege to know him and be a part of his life, a life well-lived.

The celebration of life for Del will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church in Buckeye at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, May 24th, followed by light refreshments in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County at https://www.epilepsysandiego.org/ or Beacons North County, a nonprofit for adults with intellectual disabilities at https://www.beaconsnorthcounty.com.
