Avondale, Arizona - Ruben A. Garcia, a beloved and cherished member of the Avondale, Arizona community, passed away on September 14, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on July 7, 1938, Ruben was a devoted and faithful individual, known for his loyalty and unwavering dedication to family and community. Ruben graduated from Tolleson High School as a four-year letterman in both baseball and basketball. His early achievements set the stage for a life filled with commitment and service. On August 3, 1957, Ruben married Helen Alicia Vigil. The couple recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Ruben was a wonderful father and strived to build his family with a strong foundation of love, dependability, and faith. He is survived by his wife Helen Alicia Garcia, sons Steve Garcia, Ruben Garcia Jr., Henry Garcia, Miguel Garcia, and Carlos Garcia, daughter Esther Martinez, brother Monty Garcia, 13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren He was preceded in passing by his son Manuel Garcia, parents Esteban V. Garcia and Consuelo Garcia (Acosta), and his brother Pete Garcia. Ruben dedicated his career to the Maricopa County Highway Department, where he served as a supervisor. He retired at the age of 53, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and hard work. Ruben enjoyed coaching his sons' and granddaughters' sports teams, earning many Little League and Pop Warner awards. He also enjoyed staying active by riding bikes and taking neighborhood runs. In the community, Ruben volunteered at the fire department and was a devoted parishioner at St. John Vianney Catholic Church of Goodyear. As a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, he served as past grand knight in council 4737 for many years and earned the honor of Knight of the Year. Ruben's dedication to the Knights of Columbus was evident in his famous Green Chili, which he prepared for many events, a skill he learned from his loving wife, Helen. He was always the first to be called for rides to meetings or group events, an unexpected result of his reputation as dependable and devoted. Ruben was a competent and dependable individual, a faithful friend who loved unconditionally. Ruben A.
