Goodyear, AZ - Lorenzo Amalla Morales passed away at the age of 96 on October 23, 2024, in Goodyear, AZ. He was born on August 10, 1928, in Carrizozo, New Mexico. Lorenzo dedicated over three decades of his life to serving in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt, E9). His illustrious military career began at the end of WWII. He served honorably through the Korean War and Vietnam War, with significant time spent in the Strategic Air Command, supervising avionics maintenance for B52s and later for the 32d Tactical Fighter Squadron (TFS) at Soesterberg Air Base, Holland. He concluded his service at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, New Mexico. retiring in March 1978!


In addition to his military service, Lorenzo dedicated 25 years as a teacher in the El Paso Independent School District in El Paso, Texas ,contributing to over 55 years of public service. Lorenzo was a lifelong learner, having attended schools in Carrizozo, and later achieving a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. His commitment to education was mirrored in his involvement in his children's and grandchildren's educational and community activities.


Lorenzo began his second career as a Teacher in 1981. He loved teaching English as a Second Language and worked diligently to promote individual as well as group skills! He was well liked and recognized regularly by his students and school staff! He retired from Teaching in 2007 after 25 years and was recognized with the Jaime Escalante Lifetime achievement award!


He was a generous and devoted family man, a father to seven, a brother, and a patriarch to a large family including 12 grandchildren and 25 great and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Prestinia Salcido, his daughter Bernadette Lucy, his son John Raymond, and numerous siblings. He is survived by his children Marie Margaret, Lorenzo A. Jr., Cristobal, Jesus David, Gilbert Patrick; his sisters Marie Lucero and Sylvia Avila.


A devout Catholic, Lorenzo attended St. Thomas Aquinas for communal home services and St. John Vianney for significant family services. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included watching classic Westerns and he loved to watch Wheel of Fortune with wife and family nightly!


Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Goodyear, AZ, on November 14, 2024, at 9:45am, followed by visitation at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A Rosary will be held at 1:00pm with committal to follow at approximately 1:45 pm with full Military Honors!
