Avondale, AZ - John David Bohl ("Dave"), age 87, passed away on January 28, 2026. He was born July 26, 1938, to William (Bill) Bohl Jr. and Dorthey (Dode) Portz.

Dave grew up in Buchanan, Michigan, and graduated from Buchanan High School. He earned a degree in Automotive Engineering from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. He married Maureen Noonan on August 5, 1961.

Dave worked for Bendix Corporation, Chrysler Corporation, and Volkswagen of America as Head Test Engineer. A lifelong automotive enthusiast, Dave was deeply involved in motorsports for decades. From the 1950s through the 1990s, he was an active member of the NHRA, working behind the scenes on roadsters, dragsters, and Funny Cars. As an engineer, he designed and built blowers and tuned engines for his own teams and others. Racing was more than a hobby—it was a lifelong passion that brought him camaraderie, excitement, and lasting friendships.

He is survived by his children, Randall Bohl and Danya Bohl-Hallsell (Brian Hallsell), and his granddaughter, Amelia Hallsell.

Dave was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas in Avondale and Our Lady of the Assumption in Overgaard, Arizona.
