Phoenix, Arizona - Barbara Kathrine Burrows peacefully joined her beloved husband, Bruce, in Heaven on
Saturday, December 21, 2024. She was born on June 12, 1933, to Thomas William
Murphy and Irene Katheryn Streich in the small town of Titusville, Pennsylvania.
Barbara's journey into this world was as unique as her spirit; her mother, already a busy
parent to four children, was in the midst of routine gallbladder surgery when doctors
discovered the unexpected arrival of baby Barbara nestled safely within her. In a
miraculous moment, they quickly sewed her back up, and soon after, she graced the
world with her presence.
Barbara met her future husband as a young teenager through family friends and she
could careless! On a trip home from the military in 1955, Bruce got the courage to ask
her out with her current boyfriend in earshot! She said yes, and the story began . . .
She married the love of her life, Bruce Burrows in 1956. She had her only child, Lisa, in
1960. To help ends meet while Bruce was advancing his military career, she worked as
a beautician. She became a super Mom the day her daughter was born. Barbara
supported her husband during his entire military career, which meant driving a Renault
across the States with a screaming baby in a backseat crib, arranging trailer placement,
renting housing, laundry and drycleaning services etc.
In 1969 they moved to the Netherlands, Soesteberg AFB, which ended up being the
best assignment they ever had making lifelong friends both American and foreign. They
spent five amazing years there traveling all over Europe and the UK. The military was
good to them.
Upon Bruce's retirement to Arizona, Barbara and Betty Ann Gibson, who met at
Soesteberg, forge a wonderful friendship. Betty Ann owned a travel agency and
together they traveled all over the world while their husbands were flying their
Beechcraft Bonanza all over the Southwest. When Betty Ann passed, Barbara went
back to work at the Wigwam Resort (she worked in the gift shop beginning in 1978) at
the Golf Shop with her dear friends Doug, Mary Lou and Craig Allen. Barbara spent the
next three decades serving the guests and locals as a merchandiser assisting with
every tournament and day to day operations. She was loved by everyone she
encountered, going above and beyond to make their experience the excellence that she
expected.
Barbara remained active with a bridge club that met at Red's and always supporting her
daughter and great grandchildren who were favorite frequent visitors.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bruce T Burrows, her father, Thomas William
Murphy, mother Irene Katherine Murphy, brothers, Kenneth Murphy, Richard Murphy,
Raymond Murphy and sister Regina (Murphy) Anderson. She is survived by her
daughter Lisa Zempich and her husband Gary, grandchildren Kyle Todd Zempich of
Litchfield Park AZ, Granddaughter Kali Brianne Zempich of Gilbert AZ. Great
Grandchildren, Lukas Roger Middleton, Samuel Clyde Lara, Maxwell Oscar Lara and
Ozlyn Sweitek. Many nieces and nephews and cousins, including Martha Trotter (Barry)
of Florida.
Services will be at the Church of Litchfield Park alongside her husband on January 11,
2025 at 10am.
