It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ruth Anne Rice (nee Gaal), age 98. A resident of Avondale, she passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Glendale, a few days short of her 99th birthday. She was born March 16, 1919 to the late Stephan Gaal and Theresa Gaal (nee Burmel) in Buffalo, New York. Ruth worked for a dress shop prior to moving to Phoenix with her daughter, Rebecca, in 1976. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church, participating in both the Fortnighters and Esther Circle as well as hosting the hospitality station between services for over 10 years. Ruth was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and when she wasn't volunteering at Church, spent her time with family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her step-father David Henry, step-sister Mildred, sister Irene, half-brother David, and son, David. She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara (David), Melinda (Ramesh), and Rebecca (William); six grandchildren, Mark (Michelle), Tracy, Veena (Nick), Asha, Joshua, and Brittany; 5 great-grandchildren, Melanie, Rhianna (Mike), Jessica (Josh), Rebecca, and Max, and one great-great grandson, Jack.
